Reflexology

Welcome to the world of reflexology

Reflexology is a gentle manual therapy that uses specific pressure points. To understand how it works, imagine that your feet, hands, or face form a miniature “mirror” of your body. Each area corresponds precisely to an organ, a function, or a gland. By massaging and stimulating these strategic points, we work remotely to relieve tension and restore balance to the corresponding parts of the body.

How does reflexology affect your body?

Reflexology is a gentle manual therapy that helps revitalize an organ’s energy or, conversely, soothe an area that is painful or in need of rest. By stimulating specific points, the practitioner sends signals to the body to help it regain its natural balance.

Here’s how this mechanism works in three simple steps:

1. Nerve Connections and Mirror Zones

Every part of our body (whether it’s the stomach, the liver, or a gland like the thyroid) has its own miniature projection zone on the feet, hands, or ears. This is known as a reflex zone.

When pressure is applied to one of these points, it activates tiny sensory receptors located beneath the skin. This touch generates a signal that travels rapidly through the nervous system, passes through the spinal column, and reaches the brain’s control centers. The brain processes the information and instantly sends a therapeutic command to the affected organ.

2. The Art of Touch: Soothing or Energizing

The human body naturally tends toward self-regulation. It is the reflexologist’s intention and the rhythm of their movements that determine the desired effect:

  • The calming touch (sedation): To relax an overworked or inflamed organ (such as a stomach contracted by anxiety), the practitioner uses slow, steady, and deep pressure. Slow, circular strokes encourage the nervous system to rest completely.

  • The technique that awakens (toning): To stimulate a slowed-down function (such as sluggish digestion), the pressure becomes more rhythmic, rapid, and dynamic. The well-known “caterpillar” motion is used here to restore vitality to the targeted area.

3. A Boost to Circulation

Beyond its effects on the nerves, massage locally stimulates the production of endorphins, the body’s natural hormones of well-being and pain relief. In addition, this stimulation boosts blood and lymphatic microcirculation. With improved blood flow, the organ receives a surge of oxygen and essential nutrients, which helps it eliminate accumulated toxins more easily.

Reflexology dates back more than 4,000 years, and today, the principle remains the same: to awaken your body’s energy and stimulate its natural self-healing abilities. Each precise and tailored touch sends a signal to the nervous system, encouraging the body to regulate itself.

My Approach to Foot Reflexology

The foot is the richest and most receptive area of the body. Foot reflexology is my primary focus in my daily practice, and I am delighted to share it through individual sessions or in classes at my institute as well as at the École Club Migros in Geneva. By releasing tension in the feet, we stimulate blood circulation and allow the body to let go. It’s an ideal form of support, particularly sought after here in Switzerland to counter the effects of daily stress.

My massage table tilts and can be raised, so reflexology can be done sitting or lying down.

What benefits can you expect?

A session acts first and foremost as a powerful stress reliever, offering deep relaxation that immediately releases muscle tension and anxiety. At the same time, this massage stimulates your blood and lymphatic circulation, which helps the body eliminate toxins while naturally strengthening your immune system. Finally, by directly soothing the nervous system, this method alleviates common pains such as backaches or migraines and prepares the body for truly restorative sleep.

To find out whether this method is right for your current situation, I invite you to review the list of conditions frequently relieved by reflexology.
