Precautions and Contraindications in Reflexology
Reflexology is a natural method that’s ideal for releasing tension and taking a break. As with any body treatment, certain situations require caution. In the following cases, you’ll need to reschedule your session or obtain prior approval from your doctor.
When should you reschedule or seek medical advice?
The treatment will be adjusted or postponed if any of the following apply to you:
First trimester of pregnancy: As a simple precaution, sessions are avoided during the first three months. The treatment is entirely possible and beneficial thereafter.
Major circulatory disorders: In cases of recent phlebitis, thrombosis, or significant venous disorders, your doctor’s approval is required.
Foot injuries or infections: If you have a sprain, a recent fracture, or a skin condition (fungal infection, warts), you must wait until you have fully recovered.
Medical treatments: A doctor’s approval is required for individuals taking strong anticoagulants.
Substances: To ensure your body responds properly to the treatment, it is recommended to avoid alcohol or drugs before your appointment.
What to Expect After the Session?
Reflexology restores the flow of energy and stimulates the body’s elimination functions. It is therefore common to experience reactions within 24 hours afterward.
Temporary fatigue, mild headaches or a more frequent need to use the restroom are normal responses. These are signs that your body is regulating itself. To support this process, be sure to drink water regularly after your treatment.
Reflexology is a wonderful tool for well-being that supports your daily health. By applying pressure to the reflex zones of the foot, foot reflexology stimulates overall vitality and supports the body’s self-regulation. It complements your regular medical care and diagnoses, without replacing them.
