The Dorn Method in Geneva (Saint-Jean): Relieving Back Pain Through Natural Alignment
Do you suffer from back pain, chronic tension, or joint stiffness? Our massage therapy practice in Geneva, ideally located in the Saint-Jean neighborhood, invites you to discover the Dorn Method. As a passionate and experienced practitioner, I have been applying this gentle, holistic manual therapy since 2010 to help you regain lasting well-being.
What Is the Dorn Method and How Does It Work?
Developed by Dieter Dorn, this approach is based on a simple observation: the spine is the central pillar of our health. As the home of the nervous system, it controls all of our organs and regulates the flow of our vital energy.
When one or more vertebrae become slightly misaligned (a condition that affects the vast majority of the population), this can disrupt this energy flow. These misalignments do not only cause back pain; they can also be the root cause of various health issues:
Headaches and migraines
Sleep disorders and chronic fatigue
Digestive problems (constipation, gallbladder issues)
Circulatory problems (varicose veins, heaviness)
Unlike traditional chiropractic care, the Dorn Method does not involve any sudden manipulations or “cracking.” Adjustments are made gently, using light pressure combined with the patient’s natural movements.
The Importance of Leg Length and Pelvic Balance
For a house to be stable, its foundation must be perfectly straight. The same is true for your body. That’s why every session always begins with a check of your leg length.
An imbalance in the hips or pelvis leads to poor spinal alignment. Using simple techniques that are easy to replicate at home, we first correct the alignment of the lower limbs before moving on to the precise adjustment of each vertebra.
The Holistic Approach in Practice: Stories from the Clinic
The Dorn Method is distinguished by its holistic view of the human body. In my clinic in Geneva Saint-Jean, I regularly observe how a blockage at the foundation of posture can have surprising repercussions in other parts of the body:
Postural Rebalancing and Weight Distribution: By working on leg symmetry and pelvic alignment, the body regains its natural center of gravity. Several of my clients who came in for posture assessments have experienced such significant improvement that, once their posture stabilized, they were able to stop using their old orthotic insoles.
The connection between the pelvis and the joints: A holistic approach can sometimes resolve pain in unexpected places. In particular, I treated a young woman who was suffering from persistent ankle pain that didn’t respond to conventional local treatments. By addressing the root cause and gently realigning her pelvis, the tension in her ankle joint released on its own, proving that the body must always be treated as a whole.
What to Expect After Your Dorn Therapy Session?
Very often, a single treatment provides immediate relief, a feeling of lightness, and a boost of energy. However, depending on how long your blockages have been present, a few additional sessions may be necessary.
After the treatment, your body continues to work:
Recommended rest: Your muscles need to adapt to the new position of your vertebrae. Avoid intense physical exertion for the next 2 to 3 days.
Emotional release: Physical tension sometimes holds onto blocked emotions or memories. Restoring a smooth flow of energy promotes overall healing, both physical and emotional.
How many sessions are needed?
Even a single session provides immense relief and can greatly alleviate sciatica or lower back pain. However, it’s best to schedule three sessions over the course of a month (spaced 7 to 10 days apart).
During the second session: We’ll recheck your pelvic alignment and leg length to stabilize the results of the treatment. This is the perfect time to discuss your daily postures (sitting and lying down) together. There’s always a reason why the pelvis becomes misaligned! On average, I spend an hour and a half each week teaching my clients the correct sleeping positions. In fact, once the skeletal structure is freed from tension, the muscles naturally relax, allowing you to enjoy restful sleep.
During the third session: After one final check of your pelvis, I’ll give you the tools to maintain this balance on your own. I’ll show you a simple 20-second movement to repeat morning and night in bed, turning you into your own therapist!
This is precisely why the Dorn Method is called a “method” rather than a “technique”: it includes a genuine educational component to give you the keys to your own well-being.
To illustrate this concept of rebalancing, I like to use an analogy: if a car’s exhaust pipe is touching the ground, there’s no point in overinflating the tire to try to raise the car. You have to look at the root cause of why it’s touching the ground, and correct it!
Take care of your back and give your body the space it needs to recover.
